Technology company Adtech Global – an international supplier of digital marketing solutions – launched its subsidiary AD-Fi yesterday in partnership with the Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC), bringing free Wi-Fi to public buses, taxis and water taxis throughout Nassau, while providing advertising space for businesses.
Speaking on the sidelines of the launch, Minister of Energy and Transport JoBeth Coleby-Davis said the partnership will allow students and professionals who use the bus to work while they ride.
“It’s a great partnership to have such young professionals in the tech sector to be able to partner with the government, with the public sector, private sector and public transportation, and provide a service that is so necessary and much appreciated.
“I’m quite happy to see how this has worked out, and I’m looking forward to the continued advancement of AD-Fi.”
A statement on the launch explains that the initiative combines AD-Fi’s programmatic advertising technology and BTC’s 4G LTE network.
BTC explained in the statement that the service reduces connectivity costs for transit operators by nearly 90 percent, while enhancing the passenger experience.
CEO of AD-Fi Keith Russell Jr. said yesterday was a step towards “digital equity in The Bahamas”.
“By offering free Wi-Fi on public transportation, we’re not only transforming the commuting experience, but also ensuring that underserved communities and visitors without data access can stay connected,” he said.
“Our advertisers aren’t just promoting their brands, they’re playing a meaningful role in supporting social impact and bridging the digital divide.”
The statement said AD-Fi is already in active discussions to expand sponsored Wi-Fi platforms into live events, public spaces, restaurants and bars, Airbnb properties, and boutique hotels.
“These establishments will soon be able to effortlessly monetize their existing Wi-Fi networks, earning monthly revenue based on ad engagement, all with no added operational burden,” the statement said.
Russell added: “Our mission extends beyond public transportation. We’re actively building partnerships across multiple sectors to help more businesses unlock new revenue through digital innovation.
“With our sponsored Wi-Fi service now fully operational, we’re excited to scale this model and see even more establishments benefit from passive income with zero added hassle.”
BTC’s Director of B2B Operations Delmaro Duncombe said reliable, high-speed internet access is “no longer a luxury”, but a part of everyday life.
“By bringing BTC’s robust 4G LTE network to public buses and taxis, we are making connectivity more accessible than ever,” said Duncombe.
“Whether commuters are catching up on work, staying in touch with family, or simply streaming entertainment during their ride, this initiative ensures they remain seamlessly connected throughout their journey. This is yet another step in our ongoing mission to expand digital inclusion and improve the customer experience.”
