Molly Gordon and Logan Lerman‘s dark romantic comedy “Oh, Hi!” has landed at Sony Pictures Classics.
The sophomore feature from “The Boy Downstairs” writer-director Sophie Brooks debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January. In “Oh, Hi!,” Iris (Gordon) and Isaac’s (Lerman) first romantic weekend getaway as a couple goes awry. Convinced that he’s just confused, Iris goes to extreme lengths to prove to him that they are meant to be together. Geraldine Viswanathan and John Reynolds also star.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled that we have found our home with Sony Pictures Classics,” stated Brooks. “For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved their films; always marked by distinct voices and elegance. I can’t wait for audiences to see our kooky film in theaters.”
“That unpredictable, dark romantic comedy – youthful and hilarious yet with just the right amount of danger. The performances are fantastic and beautifully directed by Sophie Brooks. OH HI! Is a definite audience winner,” added Sony Pictures Classics.

“Oh, Hi!” is produced by David Brooks, Dan Clifton, Julie Waters, Sophie Brooks, and Molly Gordon. Evan Dyal, Justin Brown, and Evan Moore are executive producers alongside Sabina Friedman-Seitz, Molly Quinn, Matthew M. Welty, and Elan Gale.
In an essay penned for Variety earlier this year, Brooks opened up about the inspiration for the film. “Now, in this current modern world of dating and hooking up, where relationships can take so many forms and there are so many options and choices for labels and intentions, the romantic world is rife with possibilities of miscommunication. The likelihood of different interpretations of conversations and situations leads to newer ways and reasons that women can be called crazy and men can be called assholes,” she wrote.
“In reality, we are all just people, with our own sets of baggage, but I found this simplification of inherently complicated feelings to be rather interesting and amusing,” Brooks continued. “The idea for ‘Oh, Hi!’ came from this curiosity — leaning into those tropes, and tearing them apart. Is Iris crazy? Is Isaac an asshole? Or are they both just people who have their deepest fears triggered? “
The deal was negotiated between Sony Pictures Classics and UTA Independent Film Group and WME Independent on behalf of the filmmakers. Watermark Media financed the feature, in association with QWGmire, AmorFortuna and Bespoke Production Capital.
