Matt Sherratt has made just two changes for his final game in charge of Wales, with Aaron Wainwright and Joe Roberts brought in to start against England in their Six Nations finale in Cardiff on Saturday.

As reported by WalesOnline on Wednesday, Scarlets centre Roberts will make the first start of his career on the wing - filling in for the injured Tom Rogers out wide.

As for Wainwright, he's handed his second start of the tournament - having featured off the bench against Italy, Ireland and Scotland.

The decision to start Wainwright on the blindside, with captain Jac Morgan moving across to replace Tommy Reffell in the seven jersey, means Wales will be able to name the World Cup back-row of Wainwright, Morgan and Taulupe Faletau for the first time since the 40-6 win over Australia in Lyon.

By the time England roll into town on Saturday, 538 days will have passed since the effective back-row last played together. The hope for Wales' interim coach is it will be able to have a similar impact to the tournament in France, with Wales beating Fiji and the Wallabies with those three starting.

Having named Wales' first unchanged XV since 2019 for the trip to Scotland, Sherratt has again kept personnel switches to a minimum.

Wainwright is the only tactical change, with the decision to start Roberts on the wing an injury-enforced one after Rogers fractured his thumb. Josh Adams also failed to overcome a hamstring injury, with both injured players released from the squad at the start of this week.

Roberts has started just twice for Wales, against France in last year's Six Nations and then against England in a World Cup warm-up the year before. However, just like all of his starts for the Scarlets, they came in the 13 jersey.

Roberts has been on the bench for Wales' two matches so far under Sherratt, with the 24-year-old being brought on as a winger both times.

The first was just a brief 18-minute cameo against Ireland in Cardiff. However, against Scotland in Edinburgh, he played 71 minutes out wide after Rogers was forced off early on.

"Getting the chance to wear the shirt in any position is a huge honour," said Roberts earlier in the week. "I have never really started the game there but I have a bit of experience.

"Early on when I first started to play for Scarlets when I was on the bench and you have the likes of Jonathan Davies and Johnny Williams there, I would come on the wing."

"There is always a chance it can happen being on the bench so I prepared for it during the week but you never really think it will happen that early.

"It went all right. I made some errors not being used to playing there as often but I enjoyed it. It was nice to have the ball in a bit of space and a bit of a change."

Elsewhere, Sherratt has resisted change despite Wales' bench making an impact in Edinburgh. Elliot Dee, Will Rowlands and Gareth Anscombe all keep their starting jerseys, despite impressive cameos from Dewi Lake, Teddy Williams and Jarrod Evans.

In the case of Dee, the Dragons hooker did enough in a starting role to earn his place, but the other two can perhaps consider themselves a little fortunate after Wales were blown away early on at Murrayfield.

Beyond Reffell moving to the bench, the only other change on the replacements' pine is the introduction of Nick Tompkins - who started the first two matches in Paris and Rome.

“Wales England is always a special occasion and we know it will be an incredible atmosphere at Principality Stadium," said Sherratt.

“We’re excited to finish our campaign at home and are looking to put in our best performance on pitch on Saturday."

England have slim hopes of winning the title on Super Saturday, although it would need France to slip up against Scotland in Paris.

They named their team for the Cardiff clash on Wednesday, with Steve Borthwick making four personnel changes and three positional switches from the win over Italy last Sunday.

Wing Tom Roebuck will make his first Test start, with Tommy Freeman moving from wing to outside centre for the first time in his international career.

Ben Curry replaces Tom Willis in the back-row, while Marcus Smith receives a recall at full-back. Luke Cowan-Dickie is brought in for hooker Jamie George, a week after the former England captain won his 100th cap.

On the bench, flanker Henry Pollock is in line for his debut, while fly-half George Ford features for the first time in this Six Nations.

With no centre cover on the bench, there is the possibility that Borthwick could field three fly-halves in the second-half - should Fin Smith move to inside centre to accommodate Ford.

“I think that there is definitely that possibility,” Borthwick said on Wednesday. “I said this to the team this morning, George Ford has been absolutely incredible within this squad.

"A man of such quality, such experience that selection has not been the way he wanted it to, and he has been phenomenal every single day, as an influence around this squad. To have him on the bench, coming on and finishing the game, is a great position for us to be in.

“You can also see things like the way Fin Smith, what he has shown, in many aspects of the game, but everyone can see what a standout defender he is. I see a position at some point in time, where I think he’d be able to be a 10-12 for us as well. I think there’s a possibility for that.”

Fin Smith has never started a match at inside centre for his club, Northampton. Flanker Ben Earl could feasibly be England's other midfield cover.

There's also no second-row cover, with Chandler Cunningham-South and Tom Willis the likely players to step in.
