The National’s Matt Berninger has laid out plans for his second solo album.
The follow-up to 2020's Booker T Jones-produced 'Serpentine Prison' is titled 'Get Sunk' and will arrive on May 30 via Book/Concord Records. Mostly recorded and co-written with Grammy Award-winning producer and engineer Sean O'Brien, the album came about following what Berninger described as, "a long period of writer’s block and self-disgust. I just got sick of asking myself 'Why am I like this?'"
Berninger was also joined by several musicians in the studio, including Meg Duffy of Hand Habits, Julia Laws of Ronboy, Kyle Resnick of Beirut and The National's touring band, The Walkmen's Walter Martin and Paul Maroon, Garret Lang, Sterling Laws, Booker T Jones, and Harrison Whitford.
Alongside the news, the singer-songwriter has shared the record's first single, Bonnet Of Pins, a propulsive indie-rock track that features horn flourishes and choral backing vocals. Press play below.
He'll support the LP with North American shows between May 19 and 30, followed by UK and European gigs that run from August 23 to September 5 and include an appearance at End Of The Road Festival in Dorset.
He'll be accompanied on stage by the core band that recorded 'Get Sunk', with Ronboy (Julia Laws) serving as the opening act. Tickets for all dates go on general sale at 10am local time on Friday (March 14).
The National, meanwhile, released two albums in 2023, 'First Two Pages of Frankenstein' and 'Laugh Track'. Last December, they put out the live album 'Rome'.

2. No Love
