Minnesota Timberwolves success trickles down to Iowa

The Timberwolves 4-0 series win over Phoenix is the franchise's first playoff series win since 2004.

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Minnesota Timberwolves' sweep over Phoenix is the franchise's first playoff series victory in 20 years. And as the Timberwolves rise, their success could help the Iowa Wolves.

"Since I started, this is the most excited I've ever seen the market for an offseason," said Iowa Wolves Director of Ticket Sales Alex Barker.

The Timberwolves have been led by rising star Anthony Edwards. According to the NBA Public Relations, the young guard has generated over 100 million social impressions since the start of the playoffs, the second most in the league.

"As the young kids start to look for that next player to grow on like Kobe and Michael Jordan, LeBron ... Anthony Edwards could be falling in those footsteps," Barker said. "These young kids (are) tying to Anthony Edwards, coming out to Iowa Wolves games going up to Minnesota Timberwolves games. I think the opportunity for the organization as a whole being in Iowa has a ton of growth opportunity."

Edwards was never a G-League player, but plenty of players on the Minnesota roster have spent time in the G-League.

"There's a lot of talent down here that are just trying to get up to the NBA and you know, if you watch the G-lEague game, (there's a) good chance you're going to see a few players later in an NBA game," said the Media Relations Coordinator for the Wolves, John Meyer.

While Edwards probably will never play for the Iowa Wolves, his team will play a preseason game at Wells Fargo Arena against Philadelphia on Oct. 11.

"The demand is at an all time high," Barker said. "The phones are ringing all day every day. And we're getting limited on inventory, which is a great situation to be in."

The only way for fans to guarantee a ticket to that game is by being a season ticket holder. Any remaining tickets will go on sale this summer.
