Ellen Voie of Women In Trucking Association to be Featured on CUTV News Radio

PLOVER, WISCONSIN, UNITED STATES, July 6, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Though women make up just under eight percent of the driver population, the number of women in trucking is steadily increasing. Many companies are now making extra efforts to recruit women to be truck drivers.

The Women In Trucking Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging the employment of women in the trucking and logistics industry, promote their accomplishments and minimize obstacles faced by women. Founded in 2007, through the support of thousands of transportation-related companies, drivers and dedicated individuals, the Women In Trucking Association has made significant strides in accomplishing its mission.

“We want to let women know that this industry has changed so much,” says Ellen Voie, founder of the Women In Trucking Association. “It's no longer the physically demanding, mechanical job that it was 20 years ago. It's much more female-friendly.”

The Women In Trucking Association is committed to bringing gender diversity to the transportation industry through education and advocacy.

“These businesses are finally seeing the value in bringing women into their organizations, because diversity does increase profits,” says Voie. “Carriers recognize that women drivers take fewer risks, and they are often better with equipment and customers and with the paperwork. They turn to us and ask how they can better attract and retain women at their trucking companies.”

Voie says the industry is expected to attract more women because safety is a priority. New technology is making trucks safer for drivers every day, which will help attract more women and millennials.

“We do a lot of things out there, but there are still women truckers out there who say, "I've never heard of you,’ says Voie. “I always say that we'll have achieved our goal when people don't think twice when a woman backs a truck into a loading dock or steps out of an 18-wheeler. There's certainly no reason why women can't make up half the trucking industry. That's a very lofty goal, but there's no reason why we can't attain that.”
