A gambling researcher has delivered a plea to restrict gambling advertising, particularly for the sake of young people and vulnerable populations.

It comes after the “gamble responsibly” message on gambling ads is set to be ditched.

Dr Charles Livingstone, gambling researcher at Monash University, spoke to Tom Elliott on the impacts the advertising has on the community.

“It indoctrinates children into thinking that betting on the game is part of the way of life,” Dr Livingstone said.

“I think we should restrict it particularly for the sake of young people and other vulnerable populations and I’m not saying ban it, but I think we don’t need to ram it down the throats of people who could do without it.”
