President Joe Biden signed into law a significant legislation on Wednesday that encompasses $95 billion in aid for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. This law also includes a provision that could lead to the banning or forced sale of the social media platform TikTok in the United States. This development concludes a protracted and intense conflict with Republican legislators over the urgently required aid for Ukraine.

At a White House event, Biden remarked, “We rose to the moment. We came together. and we got it done. Now we need to move fast, and we are.” He highlighted the detrimental impact of delays caused by this legislative battle on his administration’s efforts to support Ukraine in its resistance against Russia’s aggressive invasion. Despite the new influx of military aid, which includes air defense systems, artillery, and armored vehicles, it remains uncertain if Ukraine can quickly recover from recent setbacks.

White House national security spokesperson John Kirby expressed concerns about the ongoing struggles in the eastern regions of Ukraine, particularly in the Donbas area, stating, “It’s not going in the Ukrainians’ favor in the Donbas, certainly not elsewhere in the country.”

The delay in passing this aid package, spearheaded by House Speaker Mike Johnson amid threats from far-right members of his party, has been criticized by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. He warned that the delay had jeopardized Ukraine’s ability to combat Russian advances effectively.

The administration’s efforts to secure this aid began months before the actual signing, with Biden using various diplomatic and legislative strategies to ensure the support for Ukraine continued. This included holding direct discussions with key political figures and managing public and private negotiations to navigate the complex political landscape surrounding foreign aid and defense policy.
