Bishkek, Sept. 10, 2018. /Kabar/. A meeting of representatives of business communities and state bodies of Kyrgyzstan and Swiss business delegation took place at the Investment Promotion and Protection Agency of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The group of Swiss businessmen visited the Kyrgyz Republic on September 5-9.

The representatives of business circles in Switzerland, active in various spheres of economy, learned more about Kyrgyzstan’s investment potential and prospects for cooperation.

Executive Director of the International Business ( IBC) Council Askar Sydykov told the guests about the activities of IBC, explaining that the business association can assist in establishing contacts with potential partners.

“We appreciate the fact that Switzerland continues to provide Kyrgyzstan technical assistance, the Head of the IBC said. — Visits by business delegations mean that the trade relations between the two countries are developing, and that there will be more joint projects“.

The relations between the two countries reached a new stage of development after the recent visit of Minister of Economic Affairs, Education and Research of Switzerland Johann Schneider-Ammann to Bishkek, Askar Sydykov said.

In July of this year Kyrgyzstan was visited by an extended delegation, led by Swiss Minister Mr. Johann Schneider-Ammann. The delegation of thirty people included representatives of the parliament, regional entities – cantons and the private sector of Switzerland.

Examining the possibilities for Swiss companies to lead their businesses in our country, the delegation met with representatives of Kyrgyzstan’s private sector, business associations, including the IBC, as well as representatives of Swiss companies in Kyrgyzstan, Askar Sydykov told.

The direct investments from Switzerland, mainly in the spheres of tourism and services, as well as production of dairy products still remain modest, but they might increase given that international quality standards and sanitary norms are observed, the delegation members noted. Switzerland is ready to provide support to Kyrgyzstan in strengthening the national quality system and assistance with trade facilitation, Minister Johann Schneider-Ammann said.

Over the past years Switzerland has provided grant aid amounting to about 370 million Swiss francs to support Kyrgyzstan’s transition to the democratic system and sustainable market economy.

The Swiss Cooperation Strategy in Central Asia for 2017-2021 provides for aid in the amount of about 100 million Swiss francs for Kyrgyzstan for the next five years. Support for the Kyrgyz Republic in improving the investment climate and creating favorable conditions for leading the private sector in the country through creating jobs is an important task of the Swiss cooperation programme in Kyrgyzstan.
