Expo goods of high standards, but more promotion needed

The early consensus among buyers at Jamaica Expo 2018 is that local goods and services on display are of a very high standard, but in the same breath, they believe much more can be done from the promotion end.

"I went to the side that had a lot of essential oils and also the local technical experts in the digital area, and I'm very impressed," said Donovan Kossally.

"I want to see it (expo) expanded because I think that our local products are not advertised enough, and the way I see it, our products supersede the imported items," he added.

Clarendon-based buyers Ingrid Morris and Sonya Smith shared Kossally's view.

"I've examined several products at the various booths and without doubt, the products are top notch. I think it (Expo) should be made much bigger, and I believe that areas outside of the Corporate Area should be included. I'm from Clarendon and I'd love to see it there, this type of promotion," said Smith as her parishioner nodded in agreement.

I applaud the Jamaica Manufacturers' Association for carrying out this event. I haven't seen any areas for improvement on the ground because most of the booths and the attendants are very knowledgeable of the product they have to offer. They're very friendly and their customer service is top notch to match the product," Morris intimated.

As The Gleaner toured the twin venues late into the afternoon, several patrons could be heard voicing their approval for the goods and services.

One buyer, who only gave his name as Sheldon, chimed in to add: "If we could get some more ads on television for many of these products or just have an event like this go islandwide, more often, our economy would be much better off."
