Sayyid Asa’ad opens Arabic Poetry Festival in Oman

Muscat: His Highness Sayyid Asa’ad bin Tariq Al Said opened at Oman Establishment for Press, Publication and Advertising at Madinat Al Ialam last evening Atheer Festival for Arabic Poetry.
The opening ceremony started with a speech by Moosa Al-Farie, media man and editor-in-chief of Atheer e-newspaper during which he said that organising the festival annually documents the higher values of beauty.
A short documentary about the Omani renowned scientist “Ibn Duraid” was shown during the ceremony.
Renowned Arab poet “Adonis’ then read out some of his poems. Poetess Sa’adiyah Mufarreh delivered the jury panel speech during which she said that as per the jury panel assessment “Shamaa fi Al Adam,” by the Yemeni poet Mohammed Al Mahdi came first, “Tarkna Nawfizna Li Toyour,” by the Moroccan poet Mohammed Areej came second and “Inni Qalil fa Kawny Kathiri,” by the Syrian poet Yasser Al Atrash came third.
At the end of the event, the chief guest handed over awards to winners and a memento to the poet Adonis.
Several Omani and Arab poets took part at this festival including Said Al Saqlawi, Mohammed Al Shihi, Omar Mahrous, Ahmed Al Farsi and Al Shaimaa Al Alawiyah from Oman, Jawad Hattab (Iraq), Abdullah Al Saikhan (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), Dr. Mohammed Al Ghazzi (Tunisia), Mohammed Abdul Bari (Sudan), Ehab Al Bishbishi (Egypt), Seedi Mohammed Weld Bamba (Mauritania), Shaikha Al Mutiari (United Arab Emirates), Maisoon Al Suwaidan and Dalal al-Barood (Kuwait).
